Willie O’Ree!

On Wednesday I met Willie O’Ree, the first black player to play in the NHL, at the Embassy of Canada as he was being honored by the Congressional Hockey Caucus.

After the ceremony, I interviewed him and got my photo taken with him. He is an extremely nice man and it was an honor to meet him.

He also dropped the ceremonial puck, along with congressman John Lewis, on Tuesday at the Caps game.

I asked NHL commissioner Gary Bettman if I could take their photo. He said yes. “One photo,” he said.
